Garden Plans

“Make me something for Christmas” was my response to my husbands pestering question. Of course he would always reply with “what?” My answer after many months of thought “a garden”.

I didn’t have a clue as to what I was going to grow in my garden, but what I did know was that it had to be deep enough for anything. So began my search on the ominous sites known as Pinterest and Google.

Dun dun dun!

After much digging (pun intended) I found a simple plan and sent it to the Hubby for his approval.

What do y’all think? I think he did a fantastic job! Each raised bed took him one day to build, and the second one was much faster.

The bed shown in both photos is 3″x 4″

The bed on the ground is a 4″ x 4″ made of cedar. I bought a few years ago from Home Depot. It took less than 5 minutes to build. I believe they still carry it.

Two beds were not enough, so I asked my poor husband to build another one, just larger for more vegetables, asking for it to be a tad smaller so our munchkin would have easier access to it. Luckily he indulged me and made the last bed 5″ x 4″.

In all of my planning I realized that we need at least 2 more garden beds for our fall vegetables, and to ease the stress of succession planting.

Like any seasoned planter we sectioned off each garden bed with biodegradable twine creating square footage to make planting planning easier.

There are multiple phone apps and websites that allow you plan your garden per square foot, allowing you to properly maximize your growing potential without cutting into your yields.

What are you planting this year? Do you have any favorite planning apps you use?

Can’t wait to hear from you!
